A word of advice from someone who learned the hard way: to save a bit of frustration (yours and theirs), download and work out how to use the apps on your own first, otherwise it could all end in tears!
Great for all ages – this was enjoyed by a 3-year-old (with mum’s help) and more independently by a 6-year-old.
These are not just any sock puppets – they are lip synching animated sock puppets that automatically move in time to your voice – whether you’re singing or telling a story. Very clear instructions to make lip-synched cartoons that can then be shared on Facebook and Youtube. Great way to get the kids creating stories and reading them out loud, or just having silly fun.
This was as much fun for mum as it was for the kids… Great way to tell stories with fun characters that can be easily moved about. In their own words: “Creating cartoons with Toontastic is as easy as putting on a puppet show - simply press the record button and tell your stories through play! Once you’re done, share your cartoons with friends & family around the world. Toontastic inspires the artist and writer in every child while teaching key storytelling principles that help to promote Creativity at a young age.
While this isn’t an app it is a brilliant way to show kids (and parents!) the basics of animation. Very easy to navigate and pick up the basics (try rain falling from clouds, or a ball bouncing for starters). In their words: “Kids enjoy animation, with AnimateStar kids can learn the basics of animation using a 40 frame easy to use interface. Animations can be as short as 2 frames or as long as 40 frames. Kids can save and share their animations too! This site also has loads of other free educational games for kids of all ages. Well worth checking out.
