Pregnancy Christmas wishes
By Linda Drummond
I was heavily pregnant over Christmas. Heavily. My baby wasn't in to lying tucked up into a little ball - she preferred stretching out transverse - hands up one way, legs the other. My midwife hadn't seen anything like it. So my bump was massive. And it was hot. And I came up with a Christmas wish-list for pregnancy that I thought I could share:
1. Perfect pedicures
Sure, I hadn't really seen my toes since week 30 flew past, but still, pretty nails make swollen feet seem that little bit better. And a foot massage? Hello, did someone mention bliss?
2. Little containers of love
Pregnancy makes you hungry. Very hungry. And yet also tired - too tired to prepare. So if someone wants to be loved forever I think one of the nicest things I could ask for is containers in the fridge filled with ready-to-eat yumminess - diced mangos, sliced strawberries, washed and separated grapes. Or simple salad ingredients all in a bowl so lunchtime is a simple matter of grabbing and going. Mmmmm.
3. Shopping time
You know what's worse than staggering around a shopping centre at Christmas when you're heavily pregnant? Um, nothing much. On-line shopping is a pregnant woman's saviour. And if it's all delivered to you ready to go? Sweet!
4. Floaty frocks
Your body temperature rockets when you're pregnant (oh sure, it just goes up a notch, but when it's summer, it feels like it rockets!) So there's nothing like a cool, floaty summer dress that feels like it's touching nothing to help you beat the heat.
5. It's the little things
Sipping water is essential to feel hydrated when you're pregnant and to up the cool factor ice cubes with slivers of mint or lemon zest shaved through are just about the most perfect thing ever. Try it.
6. Photo time
If your bub's due just after Christmas you can still celebrate their first Christmas when they're in-utero. Ignore the stares and just concentrate on the smiles as you get your photo taken with Santa - hey, even bumps deserve a Santa photo!
7. A healthy, happy baby
Yes, Christmas pressies don't get any sweeter than that do they?
What are your wishes for Christmas?
